The I AM FRUITFUL Story

We are Billy and Lauren Bourne, Founders of I Am Fruitful, and we're so honored that you've stopped by to see what we're all about! When we got married in 2008, we thought having kids would be easy. Love, Marriage, Baby Carriage. That's how it works, right? But when we got a call from a nurse who said, "It's going to be really hard for you to ever get pregnant," we felt like we slammed headfirst into a brick wall. We had to choose that day (and many days after) what we were going to believe.

It was a hard road and a struggle to conceive all 5 of our precious children, but we are so blessed to have 2 on this earth and 3 in Heaven. As we walked through a lonely season of invasive tests, fertility procedures, meds, miscarriages, and a storm of emotions... God showed up in a miraculous way, taught us so much about who He is, and gave us hope to press on. Now, it's our desire to come alongside other couples who are going through a similar season.

It has been on our hearts for years to start a fertility support group in our local church. I (Lauren, here) have put so many thoughts, ideas, and scriptures on paper, and knew that one day God would tell me it was time. I've been purposeful in writing what the Lord shows me about our fertility, praying for anyone God sent my way, and being faithful with the seemingly small things He's asked me to do.

Several months after my 2nd child was born, I began feeling stirred again for couples struggling with infertility, and I was directed to Hosea. It's a beautiful story of God's love for us, and He uses Hosea's love life as the example. The story starts when God says, "Go and marry Gomer, a prostitute." Then, Hosea simply does it. Insert confused emoticon. What stood out to me was how quickly Hosea was obedient. He didn't say, "Um... God... That sounds a little crazy. Are you sure?" or "I think I'll pray on that for a few weeks, make sure that was really you." He just did it. Wha?!

So I'm journaling that morning and ask God to give me an obedient spirit. Then, I'm like, wait... when I ask for, say, patience, it seems that very annoying people are sent my direction. That's when I put my pen down. I decided not to pray for God to ask something of me. I was afraid He would ask me to do something scary, and intimidating, and difficult, and that He would take me too far outside of my comfort zone. Well He did anyway.

Later that day, I sat down to continue Hosea, and God downloaded the vision for I AM FRUITFUL. I didn't have a name yet, but He clearly gave me the Who, What, When, and Where. I was the who. You are the Who. Anyone struggling with loss, infertility, or waiting on a promise is the Who.

The What? I was to share God's truth, encourage and motivate, inspire hope, lift up and fuel up. The When? I have never before felt such urgency to begin something. I was to begin soon and it was to be daily! The Where? Live encouragement on Periscope, social media, a website, a group... the ideas were flooding in faster than I could keep up with them. But I was to start on Periscope. What a scary idea that was. I would be risking my reputation and my heart. Just like Hosea. Imagine that.

I was terrified and trembling the first (and second and third...) time I hit "Start Broadcast."

I began sharing live daily encouragement, which led to creating a website and blog, and we are working on many programs to support couples during this season of waiting and loss. We also hosted and led an in-person couples group in our home and we created an adult coloring book for infant loss and miscarriage. Our network is growing, testimonies are rolling in, and our ministry is pregnant with the beautiful vision God gave us. Check out our vision HERE.

So here we are, pursuing a passion God gave us. We truly hope, from the bottom of our hearts, that we can support you by re-igniting your passion for God and stirring up hope for your situation and your life. You are not alone, and you are so important to our Heavenly Father.

Give Today!

One of our hopes is that anytime we receive news of a miscarriage or infant loss, we could send a small support package in the mail for the grieving mom or couple. Examples of things it would include are: a signed letter of support acknowledging their loss, a small gift, scriptures and resources to help get through the difficult time. Thank you for giving today! Your gift will help to bring hope and healing to families!
